Progress 9/24

Killzone. This game has been my major nemesis this round. I've attempted to clear the current mission 12 times! Each time around, I've ended up with a bullet or six to the brain. Let's give it another shot, shall we?

From right to left: Dopey, Sleepy, Grumpy, and Miley Cyrusy.

The mission begins with me arriving amongst a crowd of my men, and immediately a jet fighter from the enemy cruises past. I run for cover, Mackelroy gets wasted, and then a group of the enemy storm through a broken gate. I offer them Ginger Bread Cookies but they shoot at me. WHY YOU!  We annihilate them.

Nobody disses my Ginger Bread Cookies!

I grab all of their ammunition, because scavenging is my character's hobby, and charge up a flight of stairs.

There I find a sniper rifle, take it, and eliminate two of the enemy creeping along. Across the way, enemy snipers are setting up and I have to go up another flight of stairs. I have four troopers that join me in this escapade. I will name them Sleepy, Dopey, Grumpy, and Miley Cyrusy. Dwarf Unit, Forwaaaard!

An enemy stupidly runs down the stairs by himself. He receives 9000 bullets from me and the Dwarves.

9000 Bullets does the job, alrighty!
At this point the snipers open up on us. I rush up the stairs, since we can't hit them from this floor.

There are a couple of enemies up here behind a couple of crates. We take 'em out! The snipers open fire on us and other enemies creep forward on this level from other positions. In the past I tried to shoot back at the snipers and eventually got pegged enough times to get kill-i-fied. This time I rush around eliminating all of the enemies on this level. Sleepy, Dopey, Grumpy, and Miley Cyrussy shoot snipers, yeah team! I run across a bridge and eliminate four of the snipers that way.

NO! Dopey! Dopey wake up! It's all a bad dream! This can't be happening! DOPEEEEYYY!!

We give Dopey a Viking funeral.

We move on. I rush down a bunch of stairs. There are more enemies down there than I thought. They riddle me full of bullets. AHHHHHHH!!

Me = Dead!

They give me a Viking funeral and move on.

I will clear this level damn it. I did progress farther than ever before, so we're getting there. We're getting there damn it.
______________________________________________________________________

Enough of that for now. I put in a game I haven't tried this Round, The Warriors.

All of the preliminary material is just about over. I do some push-ups, chin-ups, and sit-ups, and get my stats up to 10 out of 10. Yup. We're ready to rumble now!

It's finally time for the Big Meeting. This is where the actual movie starts. And the opening sequence is PERFECT! Well executed, Rockstar Games.

I love the movie, so I am marking out. Our nine delegates, who have all been introduced in the missions up to this point, head to the meeting. There are nine delegates from over 100 gangs, and Cyrus, the leader of the Riffs, tells us that we have a numbers edge over the police by the score of 60,000 to 20,000, CAAAN YOU DIIIIG IT?

Luther, leader of the Rogues, apparently does not dig it. He is handed a gun by his gang, and shoots Cyrus in the bread basket. Good one. I'm all about it! We can be friends for life Luther!

He yells "The Warriors did it!" Yeah! The Warriors...er...uh...HEY! WHY YOU! Friendship over Luther! Friendship. Over.

Police burst in to make the scene even more chaotic, and everybody runs. Cleon, leader of the Warriors in the early part of the game, gets beaten to death by the Riffs. CRAP!

I take control of the eight Warriors left as we make it to a cemetary nearby. We are deep in A.C. Turnbulls territory. We are deep in something else too.

Now everybody knows what the score is.
Sort of.
The mysterious Deejay lets everybody know that its the Warriors that killed Cyrus. She plays me a special tune. Thanks, what's that babycakes?

"No Where to Run! Nowhere to Hide!"

Gah! Thanks a lot babycakes. Well, we'll see about that. But first, we need to get the hell out of Dodge. Or A.C. Turnbull territory anyhoo.

The Skinheads roll past us in a giant Bonegrinder truck, got to get me one, while we bravely hide. Ajax argues with Swan, he wants to be the new Warlord of the gang. The gang sides with Swan, since Cleon made him War Chief. Alrighty then. And now we run!

But the po-lice show up and blare their sirens! We split up agreeing to meet at the train station.

I end up in control of Swan and with me is Snow, for backup. Now we have to sneak through A.C. Turbull territory!

Yeah! Tool up and be ready! Shave that brain!
As you can see, these dudes is ugly! We sneak around, killing Turnbull scouts. A couple of them get the word out that we're about, bringing in gangs of four of them. We wreck 'em!

I find a spray paint can and a logo, and spray paint over it. Apparently there are 10 of these. I guess spray painting them will give me a bonus or unlock something. Me not care about that!

I find a guy to sell me some health drugs, and buy some from him. After healing up, I grab a pipe wrench and me and Snow hightail it to the next part of the map.

Ajax is cornered by a bunch of A.C. Turnbulls. Snow and I run in and we wreck 'em! Now we're three. Only five more Warriors to locate. We continue through the grid, sneaking and hiding in shadows when necessary, but bopping when possible. Uh, that's seventies gang lingo for fighting, don'tcha know?

After a lot more bopping and wrecking of the A.C. Turnbulls I collect my other five guys, and now the gang is back together. But, the only way to get into the subway is through the A.C. Turnbull headquarters. Ruht Roh!

We enter and start wreckin' skinheads! I slap some sour cream on top and Ajax smashes in with the celerity sticks! That made no sense! I didn't actually do that! It's my blog damn it.

We wreck everybody in the HQ, and now we head towards the subway station. Now the scene from the movie comes back into play, with the A.C. Turnbulls back in their giant person-shredder! We realize we have to make a go of it, and we run like crazy down the street in front of it. I have to continually hit the X button in order to survive this, but then we get into the last, and most dangerous, part of this entire mission:

We bravely run away!

As Swan I have to hop fences and crash through obstacles before getting crush-i-fied by the A.C. Turnbull's big ass car. I hop fences! I break through boxes! I jive to the left! I put my right foot in and shake it all about! I hop over a car, how did I do that?! I finally jump down to safety.

And we run into the subway. VICTORY! We get onto the subway, and relax. We're home free all the way to Coney Island. Yessireebob.

Aw, who am I kidding? I saw the movie...

That's a checkmark!

Progress 9/23 NOW WITH PICTURES!

And we're back!

It's Sherlock Holmes! Sorry, I know the image is terrible. But people have asked for screen shots and all I have right now is my cell phone camera.
Better than nothing? You be the judge!

Anyway, as you have guessed from the picture, I have resumed the Insanity Project with the last game in the Mind Teasers category: Sherlock Holmes. In this game, Sherlock and Dr. Watson find themselves up against a Cthulu cult. We're now out of London where we found the corpse of a private investigator and evidence of people being kidnapped, and have traveled to Switzerland, or Sweden, I forget which.

I eat some chocolate.

I start the chapter off as Dr. Watson. Holmes told Watson in the ride over that they were going to split up, and that Dr. Watson would be intending to infiltrate the psychiatric facility where the evidence of evildoing seems to point to.

Dr. Watson had sent a letter explaining that he would be seeking to collaborate with the head doctor of the facility, so they were expecting him. He was rude as hell, explaining that they could have collaborated just as easily by correspondence, and that "both" of their times were extremely valuable.

Then the dead guy I found in the first chapter strolls right in and introduces himself at the desk. I know he's dead because last I saw him, he looked like this:

That dude did not have a nice day

Dr. Watson freaks out, and reveals the entire situation that's really going on to the head doctor, who immediately has orderlies sieze the fake investigator. He also ushers Watson out the door and tells him to return tomorrow where they can confer together privately.

Yeaaah. Privately. That's what we want. Watson, you sucker! He's the bad guy. It's elementary or something.

The game switches my role to the impersonating detective. AHA! It's really Sherlock in disguise. He counted on Watson's reaction. Haha, that's using your naive, idiot friend wisely. I add water to the compound that they plan to drug me with to water it down, and wake up in a cell shortly thereafter with my wits all about me. Of course I do. I'm F^%A%$% Sherlock Holmes!

First order of business: To make it look like I am still unconscious and drugged in my cell. I use my coat, hat, and some other junk to do the ol' "I'm still here" under the blanket act, then I proceed to pick the rusty old lock. There's a mini-game here involving putting 10 numbers in sequence. Takes me about 10 minutes but I win! Then we're out of the cell, and its time to explore the floor.

The first door houses a laboratory. Useful! At the end of it is a male nurse who has his back turned towards me for now, but if I get too close, he blows a whistle and it's GAME OVER. Not so useful.

I find a few hypodermic needles and I steal them, because that's what good guys do. It must be, I steal stuff every single game. I should steal more stuff in real life, then I would be more heroic, obviously!

I leave the room, and head down the hallway. Mauricio, a deranged maniac, yells for me to help him get out of his cell. Sherlock politely tells him that he's just passing through. Mauricio threatens to yell and bring the whole hospital down on Sherlock. He wants Sherlock to find a key he knows that the dumbass repair guy leaves inside a crack in the wall so as not to lose it. Inside the room, there will be a crowbar. Mauricio wants it to damage his lock and make good his escape.

What? Let a deranged maniac loose in the asylum? Okay, I'll do it!

I go to the end of the hallway and find the key. Then I open the door. Inside is a bunch of stuff. Different sized pipes, the crowbar, an anvil. Eh?

I realize that the pipes correspond in size with the hypodermic needle, not sure exactly what that means yet. But based on the position of the male nurse and a verbal hint from Sherlock that I need to put him to sleep, I am thinking blow gun!

I take a pipe slightly larger than one of the three needles I stole. And return to Mauricio with his pipe. He smashes his door open and rushes off, causing a huge commotion. Now the stairs are clear and I make my way up a level. Heeey, there's some sedative fluid on a table. I combine it with the hypodermic needle. It works! And now I combine the hypodermic needle with the pipe. YUP. BLOWGUN.

Time to go say hello to Mr. Male Nurse.

Mr. Male Nurse gets a dart to the neck!
HAHAHA. Looks like its somebody's nappy-nap time. Eat it!

I find some weird pink rocks and chemicals and whatnot. I steal everything I can! I don't know what it'll be useful for yet, but in these point-and-click games, most of the solutions come from finding an item in one place, and using it oddly in another. So....

And that's all for now. This is not yet a checkmark, but I have to get back to the daily life chores. Will be continuing this chapter shortly.

Progress 9/21

Whoops. Never got to the computer yesterday. I've had a busy couple of days, so no progress yet. But over the course of the week, I am hoping to get the last third of round 3 finished. We'll see what transpires.

Back tomorrow!

9/19 Progress

Not a lot of gaming today...because I'm watching football! Nice job by the Bears against the Cowboys, and the Jets against the Patriots. Looking forward to the Manning Bowl in about an hour.

But that's not what you're here for. We continue with Drakengard 2. The game seems to have opened up a little bit. Initially it was rigidly linear -- go here, do this, period. And I'm like "Okay, yessireebob. I'll go there and do that."

But now optional side quests have opened up, which is great for some character leveling. The first one is an Air Mission, let's see what that's all about.

Ah! Just my dragon, all by himself, blowing up Gargoyle Cubes. These are what they sound like Flying Cubes with ugly faces on them. I need to blow that shit up!

First, there's about 20 of them, and little glowing circles appear that shoot lasers at me! I weave in and out and eventually, blow all of the cubes up. I'm done-o!

30 more cubes show up! I'm not done-o! I go back to work. I get blasted a bunch of times, but fortunately even my dragon can use health potions in the inventory, so I heal up, and then I blow that shit up!

Finally. Done-O.

Gah. 40 more cubes show up. Er....a little help here. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

I go back to work. It takes quite a while, but eventually I blow all of that shit up!

I'm Done-O for real. My dragon gains 2 levels in the process. I unlock a land side quest. Guess what we'll be doing in Round 4?

That's a checkmark.
__________________________________________________________________________

Time for Dragon Quest 8. My band of four are in Argonia, we need the Magic Mirror from King Clavius in order to get past the barrier wall placed in front of a dungeon by Doulmagus. There, you are all caught up.

I take a look at the new weapons and armor in the shop. They cost a lot of gold that I don't have. And I have a feeling I'm going to need the upgrades shortly. I may have to do a round of gold gathering by grinding monsters. But we'll see what happens.

I enter the castle. I wander around, this place is HUGE. I steal things out of cabinets and barrels, because I'm the hero! I enter into Prince Charmles room. He's a pudgy, whiny, crybaby! He tells me to get out of his room or he'll call the guard on me!

I chop off his head!

Okay, I don't. I continue to wander around the castle, going all the way to the roof. I get lost. I can't find the King. I steal more stuff out of cabinets and barrels. I get mad watching the Giants tank big time to the Colts.

I find the throne room. King Clavius listens to my request for the magic mirror. Apparently, Prince Charmles is refusing to take the Initiation Test to be eligible to succeed to the throne because there are lizards involved. He doesn't like lizards. Bah!

If I want the mirror, I'm to secretly escort Prince Charmles through the Initiation Test, and keep him safe. Okay, I'll do it!

An advisor comes in to inform us all that Prince Charmles has run away! The King berates the fool who let him escape. I take the initiative and chop off his head! The King gives me a high-five.

Just kidding. That didn't happen. The King tells me to help his staff find Prince Charmles. An advisor tells me that the guards wouldn't let him leave the castle, so he must be around here somewhere. Okay, then.

I run around the castle, fortunately staff members tell me Prince locked himself in a room on the third floor, but even the guy with the big axe can't break in. Another guy tells me he spotted a lizard in a store room, Ah Hah!

I go into the store room. There's a hole in the wall. I send my gerbil into the hole! Yes, I have a gerbil!

And now inside the hole, I get to control the gerbil. Woo Hoo. I run around in the dark place behind the hole, until I find the green lizard. He's just sitting there, looking bored. I push him! That wakes him up. There's a hole in the middle of the ground. I look down it. Prince Charmles. Yeah. Okay.

I push the lizard into the hole. He lands on Prince Charmles' head. Prince Charmles freaks out like the whiny brat he is.

I CHEW OFF HIS HEAD!

Okay, I don't, but he does run out of the room. I return to when I came, and my main character picks up the gerbil and puts him back in the coat pocket. I head out, staff members inform me that Prince Charmles was escorted by guards to the throne room.

I return to the throne room. The King convinces Prince Charmles that he's going on the initiation. Funny cut-scene where he reminds him he can't marry a princess if he doesn't, and there's a close-up of Jessica, my super-hot mage's breasts and butt, as the King explains why marrying a princess is a good idea.

Prince Charmles is dazzled enough to momentarily agree to go on the initiation. A moment is enough for him to be dragged out by the guards. I'm starting to like the King. He's crafty. I agree to go follow after Prince Charmles and help him on the initiation, but instead I go to the save point, because that's a story progression check mark.

We're done here until Round 4.

The Scoreboard: Round Three
If you're keeping score on my progress, I'm 34-6-3 this round. Two of the failures are Killzone. Bah!

I lost in both Spider Solitaire and Poker, but they are considered wins on my progress score. Make of that what you will.

The "ties" are games that I am in progress with. I haven't achieved a checkmark, but I didn't fail either. One of them is Europa Universalis. I would like to replace it, but I don't have anything to replace it with yet. That will change. I will be making some new strategy category acquisitions soon. If you have something to donate, I'll check it out!

Progress 9/18

After losing with three Kings on the river in a Poker tournament, the only thing you can do right after that is shoot something!

I load up Fallout 3 on my computer. I recruit Somah, the tough-talking techie who I was originally imprisoned by the aliens with. I have blown up 2 of the 3 generators on this alien spaceship, and now its time to head into Robot Assembly to blow up the third one.

Somah bravely takes up the rear, thanks for that. We go in. She gets to tinkering on some alien machinery while I hold off a platoon of robots. Each one I kill, I get more replacements for my big Drill Gun, so its all good. I blast about 7 of them and then some alien troopers run in.

I shoot them in the head! I am a damn good marksman and with the slow-motion VATS system in this game, it makes turning fierce alien warriors into piles of ash and slag quite easy!

I do that!

Then I move forward on the search for the generator. After killing those initial guards, things are quite simple from there. It's quiet. Is it too quiet? It feels too quiet!

Hmm. Nope. Its just quiet. I eat some Crunch N Munch. Nothing attacks me. All right then.

I rig a machine to blow up and make a big hole in the wall. I'm handy like that. If you ever need a big hole in your wall, I'm your guy!

I run through it. Somah follows me, but hangs back so I can take care of enemies. Thanks again, Somah. Bah. I have a feeling that things were quiet back there because of her rigging, so I can't be too harsh. And anyway, with her hanging back, I don't have the same problem I had with Endicott getting killed and me having to reboot all the time until I could save his weakling self.

I am assaulted by more robot drones and alien warriors. But using VATS and my excellent skills which are maxed out on this game, I kill them all! I do a dance. On their corpses! What about it?

Somah and I find the generator. We blow that shit up!

Checkmark achieved.
________________________________________________________________________

Now that I've got my fix of chaos and carnage, it's time to use some brain power. I load up Gabriel Knight: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned.

It's 2 PM, and I'm outside the Chateau. I go back inside, and immediately chat up the two British women. Old Fatty tells me that Mr. Basa, or whatever his name is, changed rooms with them because he's a Muslim from the Middle East and wanted to face East towards Mecca. And here I thought the guy was a Spaniard. Oops! Since they are all on a big treasure hunt, I am a little suspicious of his real reason for switching rooms, but I get no more insight from Old Fatty and her younger, Butch, Helper-Partner. Yeah. That's a weird relationship.

Anyhoo, apparently the bike shop is open, I will finally be able to leave this area close to the Chateau. I go in, but all of the bikes except this lame purple one are reserved for the tour. Bah! I try and buy the purple bike anyway, but Gabriel doesn't want it. It'll hurt his self-image to ride it. Prissy $#^%$!! Gabriel wants the big green motorcyle. Gabriel can't have it, says the moped guy.

I shoot him in the face. That's an option, since Gabriel has a gun, but pushing the button only gets a wry joke from Knight.

I leave the shop and scour around. I go into the museum, and take a red hat from the Lost and Found Box. That's not stealing, that's salvage! I got into the cemetary behind the church and watch the priest water his flower from inside his house. He leaves the spray bottle on his window sill. I snatch it! That IS stealing. I'm the good guy!

After some useless wandering around to every location, which you have to do in these old-style Point-and-Click games, I re-enter the Chateau. I knock on Moseley's door and he's in there. I give him a mint, he takes it and eats it. Hmm.

I ask him about his passport. He's got it on his person and shows it to me. There's a bulky yellow jacket on the hanger. The red cap I stole looks like his. AH HAH. I can put this together. I have to find some way to either drug a mint or make him sick with it, so that I can snatch his passport and jacket, and then fool the moped dude into letting me use the green motorcycle, thinking I am Mosely. Yeah. Logical. Now I just have to figure out how to dummy up the mint so I can betray the only friend I have in the game environment. Gabriel Knight, I like the way you think!

By the way, Tim Curry does Gabriel Knight's voice in this game. Kind of fun listening to him do the New Orleans Cajun drawl.

Okay, now that I think I've figured out what this chapter is about: Impersonating Mosely to get a motorcyle, I can go about it with a more strategic approach.

Now where can I get something to make him mildly ill? I remember there is an abandoned-seeming shed on an abandoned street behind the church. I haven't visited it yet this chapter, so I head over there. Ah! There is a cat on the fence. Let's see what happens when I spray him with water.

Yep. He doesn't like it and runs into the hole in the door of the shed. Apparently, Gabriel wants some of its hair. I deftly place masking tape on the top of the hole, and when the cat stupidly and for no reason ends up back on the top of the fence again moments later, I spray him again. And he predictably runs back into the hole. Gotta love point-and-click adventures! Now the masking tape has caught some of the cat hair. I take it, and Gabriel talks about how it'll make a great fake mustache. Really? Okay, not what I was expecting to find here, but I got something done.

Gabriel wants me to find a way to attach it to our face. I go back to the Chateau, enter the kitchen, and take a package of syrup. I combine the syrup with the cat hair, and wah lah! Fake Mustache! Yee-Ahh.

I still don't know how to boggle Moseley, and what's even funnier is, Moseley doesn't have a mustache. Hmmmm.

So there are door buzzers for every room in the lobby. I hit Mosely's to get him out of his room. Maybe he'll leave his stuff in there, and I think there was a hint earlier in the conversation between the two of them, Gabriel told Mosely not to leave his passport in his hotel room. Maybe he will anyway.

I go back up to the 2nd floor hallway, and Mosely exits his room. I sneak in and get the yellow jacket, but no passport, and I know I'm going to need it because the moped guy checked mine earlier.

He's got it in his back pocket. He ate a candy...hmmmm....

I go back out to the hallway, and note that there is a table shortly after Moseley's doorway. I try to put a candy on it, it works! I go back down stairs and ring the door buzzer again. I go back up. Moseley stops in front of the table to eat the candy. Hoo Hah. I sneak around him, and pilfer the passport from his back pocket!!

Yeah. I love backstabbing my friends. Nothing better! Now I should have all of the ingredients I need to fool the moped guy and get that stylin' motorcyle. Let's find out.

Ah, I finally see what this black magic marker is that I got way back in the first chapter, and how the cat hair mustache plays a role. One little mark, and yes, there is now a mustache drawn onto Mosley in the passport picture. I love it when a plan comes together, and when I have all of the inventory items I need to complete a task in a point-and-click adventure. Now to go see the moped guy.

Hah! My Mosely disguise works so well, I get the entire "Treasure Package" that includes a shovel and binoculars. Those sound like handy tools. I put the shovel in my "Special Pocket" where impossible to conceal items that are in my inventory go. No, honey, I'm not happy to see you.

Now I have the keys to the motorcycle. Gabriel cuts off screen for a minute to put Moseley's stuff back. I was going to burn the evidence. Bah.

I turn the ignition and....

A MAP POPS UP. New locations. Looks like this chapter is longer than I thought it would be. Let's go check a new location out, shall we?

I go to the train station where I came in. After inquiring from an employee there and looking at the train schedule board, it is clear that Bonicelli, the Italian guy that's on the treasure tour I met in the church, lied about the train he came in on, since it doesn't even exist. Nice alibi jerkface. I got you now!

I probably should have stopped playing after I got the motorcycle. I've now been playing for about 90 minutes, and the story has clearly progressed. There are multiple other locations so perhaps I should no longer just do the time progression as a checkmark. We'll end Round Three here.

Checkmark Achieved.

Time for some Ultimate Marvel Alliance. Let's break things!

I choose The Human Torch, Spiderwoman, Luke Cage, and Daredevil for this round. Every save point I find, I change the team.

I'm still on the Hellicarrier, which is the first scenario. The Masters of Evil are trying to cause S.H.I.E.L.D.'s flying giant base of operations to crash as a first strike in Dr. Doom's master plan. I want to be on their side.

I'm not on their side. SO. I decide to start off controlling Daredevil, and we're laying the smackdown on variations of Ultron robots and Dr. Doom robots. A bunch of Shield agents are trapped in their rooms behind force fields and beg us to get them out of that mess. We find the console and turn the force fields off, and smash every damn thing we see in the process to collect gold coins! Frankly, I'm doing as much damage to the ship as the Masters of Evil. That's why they hired me. Fight fire with fire, right? Right?

The Shield agents thank us for freeing them, and tell us Winter Soldier is doing something or other blah blah blah stop him.

Winter Who Now? I thought this was supposed to be Marvel's most dangerous villains, not their most obscure ones.

Anyhoo, we blow up a lot of Doom and Ultron robots as well as important looking parts of the ship, apparently that is misleading, so I should smash as much as I want, and then I encounter The Winter Soldier!

Nope. Still doesn't ring a bell. Wait, who's the big green guy standing next to him? It's the Radioactive Man. Him, I know. Radioactive Man blabs about the plan, Winter Soldier tells him to shut it! Radioactive Man says it doesn't matter because he's about to kill us anyway.

Oh Iz You?

They assault us with a bunch of funky robots. I change over to Luke Cage and hurl them around. Cage says some funny things when he finishes people about them being tiny and fools and things like that. That's right Power Man!

Dr. Doom calls up on Winter's cell phone. "Why haven't you blown up the engines yet?" He asks. Winter craps his pants and he and the Radioactive Man run off. They run off!

Why you--!!

I finish off the robots and chase after them. Winter cackles "See Radioactive Man? I knew they'd follow us." he says. That's what you call a genius level plan? No wonder I never heard of you. I switch over to The Human Torch and proceed to burn them!

They burn. Buh bye!

Nick Fury tells me I did a good job yadda yadda but the Masters of Evil have sent some kind of large beastie now, cause Dr. Doom always has a backup plan don'tcha know, and could I kindly take care of it.

What's in it for me? Oh right. Playing super heroes. Gah!

I go through the next level, meaning to find a save point because I really completed enough of this to have earned a checkmark. But there isn't one, and I destroy all of the robots in the next board level. There's no villain boss.  Just when I'm thinking this is getting too easy for Hard level, I walk right into a room with six robots and the Human Torch gets snuffed out! Whoops.

I switch over to Spiderwoman, and we proceed to leave the Human Torch lying face-down without checking his medical condition. Losers get left behind! Cold, Marvel Heroes. Very cold.

I proceed to go outside, hoping to find a save point out there, since I have now completed enough to have earned two checkmarks, plus I'm down to three members of my team.

Instead, I find FING FANG FOOM! Who dat you ask? He's a big, green, nasty dragon. And he's coming for me! There's a big gun on the edge of the Helicarrier, so I run over to it and use it to start gunning Fing Fang Foom down. He lands on the edge and breathes fire at me. I run for cover, then blast him with Spiderwoman's bioplasma rays, letting Daredevil and Luke Cage handle Ultron robots that also storm at us.

This happens four times like that, with Foom taking off to the skies, me jumping on the gun and knocking off some of his health, then weakening him further when he lands, until finally he falls on his big fat face.

I saved the Hellicarrier!

Cut Scene: We're now in Stark Towers. Fury briefs Spiderman, Wolverine, Captain America, Thor, and Storm on what's going down, and how we're about to take off for Siberia or something. Whut?

Iron Man flies in and says something obnoxious and the cut scene ends. I hit the save point. That's three checkmarks! Eh. I guess we'll log it as one checkmark. This is a long game after all.

Okay. I slide Europa Universalis into the computer, and proceed to bore myself to anger. Any game that you just wait for time to tick and can literally read a novel while you play it, is an awful game.

I make it from January to April of the current year before needing to shut this down. And I think this is the last straw for this game. I will definitely be acquring a new strategy game to install in its place. Bah!

9/17 Progress

Insomnia is terrible for me in all other phases of my life, but it's great for The Insanity Project! Unable to sleep, I decide to put in The Urbz to get a little Sim action going.

I head over to The Foundry district, and buy a couch for my apartment.

I change into my punk outfit, since you have to dress appropriately for the district you are in, and head over the Central Park. I haven't found a lot of the district clothing stores, that's something I need to do, cause people don't want to be my friends in The Foundry or Hightail Park. Bah! How superficial you people are! It's not about the clothes, its about the man in the clothes, say I!

I go into the club and engage in a fight in the cage! Apparently, I need a better attitude going in to win the fight, so I get my ass pinned to the mat! I'll get you next time, wench from hell! But my Fun meter goes up to high, I bet it did, wrestling that chick.

I won't be able to advance with the jobs anywhere until I increase my skill sets. So, instead I meet Arthur Pop. One of my checklist goals is to befriend this guy, so that I unlock a Social Move. We hang for awhile, and I impress him with my Skateboard Social move! He likes it. After chatting for awhile, Arthur Pop gives me the new Dance Social move.

Thanks Arthur Pop! I head home, and do the basics: Sleep, Eat, shower, empty the bladder, hire a cleaning service, play with the bulldog. I increase my mental stat up to 10, which is as high as it can go with my current Mental Game Thing. I now have to upgrade my mental game thing and my workout bench, and I still haven't found a place to buy the tool to increase my artistic skill, that must be in a district I haven't unlocked yet. There's a lot of those.

I decide its time to get my social up to 65, it's 61 right now, and I call over friends for a PAR-TAY.

Soon after they arrive. It must suck for the janitor dude to be cleaning up my apartment while I am partying simultaneously. Plus I'm paying the company 10 bucks an hour, so he must be cleaning my apartment for like 4 bucks an hour. Dude, get a real job!

I am still wearing my punk rock clothing, apparently I am not supposed to do that here in this better neighborhood. Instead of increasing my social stat, I reduce it down to 59 as this woman in pink has the nerve to tell me to change my clothes, while she's at a party in my apartment! Whut?

I change my clothes. People respond much better to me after that. Weirdness! I'll remember this for future playing sessions.

I compare phones with one chick. Mine is better. She doesn't like it! My rating goes down to 57!
I use a Power Social and whip out a can of party bomb! That puts me back up to 60.
I hang with people and chat them up, and after some more successes with social tricks, I get up to 65.

I unlock a new district, Neon SomethingorOther. Cool!

That constitutes a checkmark. Time to move on!

**Insanity Project Update**

When I inserted the ancient PC game Freedom Fighters into the mix, I knew instantly that I was making a huge mistake. The game's controls are wonky, the playability is limited due to the severe limitations of the time it was made. It's just not a very good game by today's standards. I added it out of severe desperation to fill a sixth Shooter category slot.

Bah. It's awful, and it's O.U.T.!

Thanks to the contribution of Eric Enright, I have a more than suitable replacement. An excellent game: Medal Of Honor: European Assault for the PS2. It's in! And we're going to start playing it right now.

After creating my profile, there is a great cut scene that sets the tone perfectly, with a narrator talking about how there is nothing good about war, but there is something good about why you fight war. Color me impressed right away with the gritty, mature touch of the opening.

I'm an American soldier on a British boat. We're approaching the shores of conquered France, and we think we've fooled the Germans and will have a clean sail right in. But no, they suddenly launch a full out assault on us. The Brits raise their flag to the top of the sail, and we head in.

I am yelled at to find Captain Britt, who has the communication system. Nobody yells at me like that I say, and shoot my commanding officer in the head!

Okay, I don't. I go to find Captain Britt. There are 80 soldiers in battle against each other on all sides of me! I have to weave in and out, dodging bullets flying everywhere. There's plenty of ammunition and health kit pickups on the ground, and I shoot some Nazi's in the face as I go with my assault rifle.

Yeeaah, I'm liking this game already. Adding it was the right decision!

I find Captain Britt, and now we have to charge back to the boat to make our valiant escape. Cause that's what heroes do. They retreat! There are a bunch of Germans firing at me from behind a crate. I lob a grenade! They eat it! Eat it, Nazi's! They vaporize.

Satisfying. Very satisfying. I take their stuff, which didn't vaporize. Yeaaah. I bravely retreat back onto the ship. Mission Accomplished says the game. Gold Star, says the game. Yeaaaaah.

Yeaaaaaah. Now we're cooking with gas. Buh bye lame PC game from 2003. Hel-lo happy times for THIS GUY.

That's a checkmark. There are only a few sketchy games left on the list. There's a couple in the Strategy section, Europa Universalis and Space Empires, that I am very 'eh' on. The rest of the games on the list are now golden, and I'll play them all through, if I can!

Early tweaking when you try and add 48 games into a system all at once was always going to be necessary! For you Purists that think I should play even the suck games through from start to finish if I moronically add them in, well, Eat it! Lame games will get the BOOT.

THE BOOT!
____________________________________________________________________________

Time for some Maritime Fun with Suikoden 4. This game takes place on sea ships, which is different from the others. The storyline has not yet begun, its just been preliminary missions to build up the characters.

The two main characters have been my primary guy, who I named Al. I know, shockingly creative that eh? Snowe is the other main character. We're best friends and he's the superior officer because his dad is the political bigwig in the town.

We're on our first missions, which basically entail us going back and forth between the home base in Razril, and Middleport, a small island near us. It's been quite dull, as we face off every twenty-two seconds against Dirty Fishmen and Giant Seaweed. Ooh, scary!

With two of the other characters Jewel and Paula, along for the ride. This is Suikoden so eventually I will have 108 characters, 60 of which will be playable in combat. We're all up to level 10, so the automatic grinding going on has been worthwhile in that regard. I'm waiting for something to happen as I return to Razril from the latest mundane mission.

My patience is rewarded as we land in Razril and are immediately told that Snowe and I have a special mission. We report to Glen, the seedy looking Commander of the guard, and Snowe's dad is there, along with Katarina, second in command to Glen or something. He's constantly mean to her, even though he's supposed to be the stand up commander guy. Okaaaay!

I am introduced to Mr. Ramada who wants an escort to Iluya, an island quite a ways off. He seems nervous about us newly graduated newbies being the ones given the mission, but since his cargo is just spices, and we trained in that area, it should be easy! Yeaaah, it should be easy! Put that on my tombstone!

We leave so I can rest up and buy stuff at the stores. There is a bizarre little cut scene where Snowe says he's going to check out the boat, and I should go do other stuff. My character makes an angry pout face for no discernable reason.

Then again, I do that in actual life all the time too. So maybe the game designers took that into consideration. I am pouting right now! Now I am breathing fire in real life. Now I am floating in mid-air as I levitate. Now I am eating a cookie made of diamonds. What about it?

After I check out all the shops to discover there's nothing new to buy, I go back to the briefing room and tell Mr. Ramada that I am ready for the mission.

Annnd...

We're on the boat. Snowe reveals he took a look at the cargo, it's not spices! It's the biggest ammunition for rune cannons he's ever seen. Rune cannons? That sounds suspiciously like the plot going on in Suikoden Tactics too. Okay, then. Let's get this exciting special mission going! We sail off to the great horizon beyond Razril!

Annndd...I...am...fighting....

Dirty fishmen and Giant seaweed....over...and...over...

I clear the area beyond Razril and Middleport, and woo hoo, a cut scene.

Glen, my seedy boss tells Katarina that he doubts Snowe's leadership ability, but he had to put him in charge due to political reasons. He's glad he put ME on the mission too, to make sure it goes down right. Thanks, Boss! You're still seedy though.

He has a bad feeling about the mission, a notorious pirate with six sails has been spotted in the territory, he doesn't think there's really spices on board. He's coming after us. Thanks for having my back, Glen! You're still seedy though.

We're on the boat and BOOM-O! The Pirate Brandeau and his six-sail ship attacks. I get sent sprawling to the deck, when I get up, Snowe is all like "AHH! AHH! And I can't move my arm! And we need to go back to port!" and his men are like "But sir, if we retreat then our client's ship will get blown to smithereens!" and he's like "I don't care. Save me! Save me!"

Snowe, you whiny bitch. I get the opportunity to say either "Let's Fight!" or "Yes, let's return to port quickly!" Which one do you think I pick?

Snowe is all like "No, don't listen to him. I'm the Captain! Listen to me! Retreat!" The men just look at him with disdain, and load up the cannons. Snowe sneaks onto a rowboat. Snowe, buh bye, you loser.

SHIP TO SHIP COOOMBAAAT!

This is a cool aspect to the game. Two pirate ships assault my ship, and I get to choose what elemental rune cannon ammunition I want to use to counter theirs. Then we fight. I choose the right ones, and blow both of them to itty bitties. Say hi to Davey Jones for me suckers!

But, apparently Brandeau's ship doesn't quite sink, as he rams us and boards us. Doh. He and an assassin guy attack us, neat cut scene with the assassin nailing the guy who reports the boarding of our ship in the back with three shuriken!

It's me and a random marine versus the Assassin and Pirate Brandeau. It's not that tough of a fight though, maybe because I have been level crunching, that's the whole point, and even my red shirt dude survives!

Cut Scene! Brandeau's arm starts glowing a nasty red. Rhut Rhoh! Assassin panics, tells everyone to run or we'll be disintegrated. My guys just stand around, and then they get disintegrated! Well, they were warned. The assassin gets disintegrated too. But a weird green field surrounds me, so like, its supposed to be all game over but I start singing "If ya got the GLOW! I am the LAAAST DRAAAGON! THE--"

The scene shifts to Glen tracking us down. He spots Snowe in a rowboat. Snowe explains how he can't move his arm, and Glen punches him in the face for abandoning everyone. Maybe Glen's not so seedy. Good one Glen!

Brandeau is shocked that I survived, but he realizes I must have a rune too. News to THIS GUY. Now we move into the one-on-one duel system that is also available in every Suikoden. The way this works is, the opponent says things, and based on what he says you can either Guard, Attack, or Special, which is a super attack. I am used to the system so after a few turns, I get the gist and proceed to kick his ass!

CUT SCENE!

Glen rushes on board and is happy that I am still alive. Pirate Brandeau's hand is glowing, but the rune rises off his hand and onto Glen's! Whut? I wanted the power to disintegrate others. It's not fair! Gimme that. Bah!

Brandeau seems quite relieved, as he burns to nothingness. Okay, dude. Enjoy the Afterlife.

On Mr. Ramada's ship, they view the whole thing, and are relieved that the pirate who's been chasing them is no more. Hey, it's Akaghi and Mizuki! They are on my team in Suikoden Tactics. Well, I guess these two games take place in the same environment. That's kind of cool.

My ship floats past Snowe, who is back in a row boat. I give him the death mask grimace! So much for our friendship! Thanks for leaving me to get vaporized, jerky.

I'm back in my room in Razril, save point. And that's a story progression checkmark! Finally this game got underway in earnest. Now I feel like it might be as good as the other Suikodens. We'll see.
___________________________________________________________________________

Bah. Soul Caliber 3 up next. This game is fun, but redundant. I take four of my warriors; Kor my main character who uses a nunchuku, my hot dancer who I upgrade with deadlier tambourines. That's right she cracks you in the head with tambourines. You won't like it! Abelia who is a powerful knight with a sword and shield, and Eurydice, who has the biggest broadsword ever made. I buy her a Demon Sword. Hoo Hah!

First we have to withstand the assault of the oncoming warriors, protecting our six bases from their attacks. As long as one of my four warriors is alive at all times, and my main base is standing, then I can't lose. Consquently, once I defeat all of their attackers, I am guaranteed victory since my warriors regenerate, theirs do not. Yeaaah. Advantage: THIS GUY.

I whack 'em. I crack 'em. I stack the bodies high in a pile. They had five attackers this time, and though my guys died quite a few times, I manage to eliminate all five of them before they can get significantly close to my base. Even when I lose a battle, I warrior gains experience and becomes more powerful, so its good to keep throwing the weaker guys into fights.

Also, I can stack 'em, so that once a battle concludes with my first warrior, the second and then third just step on in, and the opponent's health has not replenished, granting a huge hit point advantage. The enemy can do the same thing, and often does. That's the challenge of this game.

Now its time to launch into the assault of the enemy castle. I have to first take their four preliminary bases, then four after that, then the main stronghold. Not all of their little bases have protectors, and go down easily. There is a level 60 Lizardman Assassin hanging out on the road that I need to walk on to get to one of the bases. Holy %##@!

My characters are level 12.

But, he's in the road, so he doesn't replenish hit points. I keep chopping down that tree, getting a few licks in before he sends me packing. This happens three times, so I attack him nine times in total, before I kill him. But now he's dead! I hang his head on my wall. Yeaaaaah. That looks spiffy!

I take two of the four inner bases without much difficulty. There is a very tough fight in the third against a warrior with a Wave Sword, which is a big curvy nasty looking pig sticker. She sticks me in the pig enough times that I have to come back three times before I finally kill her, because she regenerates after every round due to being in a base.

Now she's gone. One more inner base to go. This one is guarded by a 24th level assassin, who mocks me the entire time, and then breathes a fireball on me. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. Fire hurts!

She kills two rounds of three attacks, withstanding my forces each time. Then she smartly retreats to the main castle, to stack with the head of the enemy forces there, Luna.

That was smart, and I had almost killed her in the last fight. Oh well. I take the fourth inner base since there is no longer a protector there. And its on to the main base.

There is a brief cut scene where Luna says something about getting revenge since I defeated her in the last mission as well. Sorry Luna, no revenge for you! I attack her with everything I've got!!

She gets her revenge. Doh. But like always, I keep one warrior behind, so I just have to wait for my other three to regenerate to keep the assault going.

The next time around, Abelia stabs her through the heart, buh bye. However Abelia is my third and final warrior there, and the assassin easily kills the significantly weakened Abelia.

I regenerate, and keep going back until finally I am able to chop her down with Eurydice's huge Demon Sword, and Abelia kills her with a nice stab to the face.

Chronicle Six Defeated. That is what victory smells like! That's a checkmark.

Time for some World Series of Poker. Remember that 10K I won in the cash games last time around? Yeah, I shell it all out as the entrance fee for the World Championship Omaha competition at the Rio.

Omaha is not a form of Poker that I have a lot of experience with. You get 4 cards, but can only use 2 of them in the hand. You have to use 3 cards from the flop, so it changes your strategy dramatically from what you are actually holding and what you have, as compared to other forms of Poker.

I do well on the very first hand, drawing A K and I end up winning 3K. That's a quality start.

My strategy is this game is to not play anything under the top 25 best hands. I may go even lower than that in the next tournament, as part of the essence of beating 2,500 other players is patience. You don't want to get drawn into too many hands, because even the best starting hand can lose in a myriad of ways. Let your competition eliminate each other, if you can, and swoop in when you have a sure thing.

My patience level has not been high enough to win at poker yet. We'll see if I can improve my situation with this tournament. My goal is to end up in the cash, something I haven't done in a tournament in this game yet.

I fold the next 5 hands with nothing of any quality. I stupidly play A 10 with a gut feeling that probably just meant I should have gotten myself a bowl of ice cream while the animated characters went to war against each other. I lose that 3K and am back to my 10K starting position.

I fold the next 2 hands, then get a full house, 3 8's, 2 J's! I win 7K! Now we're cooking with gas. Up to 17K.

After a decent starting hand, Q J suited, I fold when nothing hits me on the flop, and am out 1K. Down to 16K.

I have a pair of J's and 8's, and the board is pretty bad. But my opponent goes all in, which would cost me another 5500 to see it. I am already down to 12K, if I call and lose, I'm down to 6,500K and it is way to early to be in that position. I fold.

SHE BLUFFED ME. SHE TOTALLY HAD NOTHING. I could have eliminated her and been up to 25K. Instead I have half that amount and she has 14K. Sometimes you have to gamble, but my Jacks and 8's didn't feel strong enough.

I play with a pair of 10's and a pair of 7's comes on the board. But my opponent has a pair of A's, so I lose the hand, and am back to my starting position of 10K. How did it all go wrong so fast.

Cause I suck at poker, that's why.

I play a bluff when K Q doesn't yield any results, but my opponent has the nuts, and I fall all the way down to 5,500K. Uh oh.

Two pairs with K 9 then fails me and I am down to 2,500.

My pair of 10's and J's doubles me up as I go all in for the first time, and get back up to 5K.

I fold the next five hands, and then get the second best starting hand possible, a pair of Kings. I bet half my stack and when I entice a contestant, I go all in. When a third King comes up on the river, I feel very strong, only to learn that very same King was my undoing, as it allowed my opponent to get a King-High Straight.

I am eliminated in 2,100th position. Humiliating!!

There's 10K I'll never see again. Guess we'll be back to cash games next time around.

Hah! It's still a checkmark, because I participated. Take that, World! I am still the winner.
